We have been steadily at work on this blog for nearly 5 years now. Our goal at first was just to highlight news events we thought were not be adequately covered by Main Stream Media. Events that we thought affected us all and things we should know about that we might not otherwise know that were impacting all of our lives. Certainly the financial crisis was one of those issues. Corrupt do nothing politicians fit in that category as well. The focus has not necessarily been on the US, because these issues had tremendous global impacts and still do.
Since we began we have chronicled the housing bubble, the outright criminal acts of our banking system, the collapse of our infrastructure, the sad decay of our educational systems, and through it all we watched our leaders play political games for their own self-interest and rarely did they act in a manner they were oath-bound to perform; mainly to serve the general good of the public.
We watched nations implode, poverty increase, wars upon wars erupt, police states arise, liberties taken away, and on the rare occasions we saw people stand up, only to be put back down. During it all, we wondered, “why don’t people wake up?” Surely with all of the alternative ways real information is flowing people will wake up. However, except for a few isolated victories, people have not awakened. It has perplexed us, confounded our efforts, and at times made us weary.
How could we help bring some energy to a meaningful awakening? There is some energy out there but it is the energy that accompanies almost any abstract endeavor. As a whole, we feel no personal danger; we have no sense of an impending crisis in our lives. Stupidly, with a kind of smug removal that we can’t begin to fathom, we assume that the problems of killing, dying, and impoverishment do not fall within our special province. But most assuredly, as any family of a dead or severely wounded soldier can attest, sooner or later it does invade our province. Surely as anyone who has lost their home or lost their life’s work can affirm these issues can come to roost at your house.
Just how did we get to this place of blind, thoughtless, automatic acquiescence to it all, our simple-minded patriotism, our prideful ignorance? We don’t exclude ourselves here and we certainly don’t have any straight forward answers to these questions. No, instead, we just know these are the right questions. We could easily blame it all on the mind numbing media content or the meaningless distractions that make up TV in the evening, but somehow that seems to mean we have abdicated our ability to think, and we are not ready to accept that we or our readers are zombies just yet.
What we do know is that most of us don’t know a damn thing about the true nature of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Egypt, Africa, Iran, or how the banksters and politicians actually get away with stealing our money and our blood, so we pretend we do and then like jay-birds we start repeating the talking points fed to us by whatever media we ascribe to, whether that’s FOX, CNN, or MSNBC, and based on whether we consider ourselves liberal, conservative, or libertarian, whatever that even means. After all it is all so damn complicated, isn’t it?
Maybe that’s the point, the world is a very complicated, intertwined dynamic space requiring most of us to have to really read, research, and know the issues. For most of us, we simply cannot dedicate the time to get to know the facts as our own survival requires most of our energy. But here is the rub, if we acquiescence to it all and don’t respond we all may wind up laboring our entire lives for “the man” and there will be very little for us, our children, and our grandchildren. This reality is not without historical precedence. It has happened many times in the past. It is the nature of humans that a few non moral sociopathic greedy bunch eventual wind up holding all the power and gold. That is the issue we must and can understand. It is quite simple really. It is no one’s fault and there is no one to be angry with for this reality. It is inherent in human nature. This fact is simple and easy to understand. It’s not complicated.
It is also the reality that if this inequality is not addressed, it will eventually lead to a violent and bloody correction. History has also demonstrated that many times over. It is woven in our lore of our sense of good and bad, right and wrong, moral and immoral. It is where the true heroes and patriots were born that we all know by name in whatever country we live.
2014 is no doubt a pivotal year. So, it seems the question before the whole world is simple. Are we going to just repeat the cycles of past history or have we evolved to a point where we can calmly, peacefully stand up together and correct these inequalities in a civil manner, or not? It is something we can all ponder in the silence of our minds as it really isn’t that complicated.
